loading 98 drivers without cd or floppy

hi guys...running out of ideas here...need advice

was able to install win 98 on a thinkpad 240 (no cd or floppy) by using another laptop to copy setup files..the problem is at the end of the install it started asking me for the win 98cd that i can't do nothing about coz i haven't loaded up the drivers in the first place...to make a long story short..it loaded win 98 with a bunch of errors which i don't really care coz i will upgrade to win 2000 anyway after this install. problem is it won't load drivers even for a regular usb floppy drive or cd rom...even a pcmcia cd rom...now i can't even upgrade cause i can't load the simple drivers on the floppy or cd..any ideas?:help:

Most generic drivers should get the laptop working and on the internet. When it asks for a file, or driver you may have to manually point it to the files in your setup files. Then go online and get any updates.

Alternatively with Windows 98 you can install on one machine then move the drive from one computer to the next. In the new machine Windows will boot and look for any new drivers it needs.

Also I think you need Windows 98 SE (second edition) for USB to work natively. Otherwise you will need to search and download a USB driver.

Or Linux may be a good option for you also.
