Java (TM) in Windows

My pc runs on Windows XP Tiny. In my "Add/Remove" I find :

1... Java (TM) 6 update 3 ..............111 MB

2... Java(TM) 6 update 4 ..............137 MB

3... Java(TM) 6 update 5 ..............114 MB

Please tell me if it would be alright to delete/uninstall the first two items

and have the last item and continue to enjoy whatever all three of them

were providing me.

As you can see by doing that I could save 248 MB of space.

And what exactly Java does for me, being in my pc?

For one, I see Java coming on when I open 'certain' Chess sites. Not all.

Thank you.

you can safely remove them. All java updates are stand alone and can be installed on their on.

Why Sun doesn't remove the previous versions on updating is based upon anyones guess...They just don't do it and have no intentions of providing an uninstaller for the previous versions.

Java in Windows

Please forgive me. Can I remove ALL 3 of them. Or remove the 2, 3 updates
and leave in the the LAST update.

I fear if I remove ALL of them, Java will not give me my CHESS programs.
Except for these 3 items there are no other Java item in my system.

Please bear in mind I am old, and there4 a slow learner, and quite new and dumb of this internet world.

Your advice on Note Book worked well. As I clicked 'word wrap' I felt very foolish indeed. I will leave an entry in there later.

On the Adobe issue I inferred you yelling at me 'What the hell are you messing around there for man?' . . . You didn't tell me what a PDF Reader is . . . and I deleted Adobe Reader and also Foxit PDF Reader that used 3.78 MB.....................now my 'free space' has risen from 1.01 GB to 1.29 GB.

thanks a lot Lurks, I am very grateful to you, ben aloysius

You must leave the latest version of the java software. I also love playing online chess and have several master names in pogo...in which will not work without java installed.
Have a good evening!

First Chess ... I tried many chess sites ... where we play with 'timer' it took a while to get used to but my old hands are not steady ... many a time I left my piece on a square NOT intended ... while carrying it I drop it in the wrong place. Now I have filtered down to IT'S YOUR TURN.com ... One move a day for 15 games ... a tension free set up ... chessgames.com gives me a chance to follow the 'greats' in their plays. I am not in Pogo.
I removed the 1st 2 updates of Java and saved a lot of space and played at It's Your Turn.com b4 coming here.
Thank you Lurkins, that made me feel yet more foolisher than b4.
May God bless you.
