Impermanent Screen Resolution

Acer Aspire 2000 (Cl32) runs WinXP/Pro/Sp3 and can be set to display in its native resolution of 1280 x 800 from its ATI Mobility Radeon 9200 video card. However, when it reboots, it reverts to 640 x 480, and often blames an absent or corrupt video driver. My remedy is to UNinstall the video driver from Device Manager and reboot, but I'd like to have native resolution without going through this 'readjustment' at every reboot. On the rare occasions that I can access the ATI Control Panel, Schemes in the Display tab, is empty. If I select 'Default Single Display' from the offered options, the SAVE button is greyed out. Any suggestions as to how I can get the native resolution to 'stick' ?

I suggest you run the latest update to the Video card driver. Restart the computer. If it still happens, run next the latest Windows Update -- If in case it detects a driver for your video card, i say choose to skip that particular update.

A fully updated Windows and Video card drivers that is direct from your card manufacturer itself should fix the problem.

Your last "update-related fix" would probably be to run Windows update again, and this time apply the video card update that Windows has detected.

Windows probably has an older version of the video card driver, but there just could be some setting in there that will finally register into your system and affix the resolution settings.

Goodluck!

The problem went away when I uninstalled the driver from its own uninstall software, rather than in Device Manager. Now the resolution is good and stable even though it it is NOT the 'native' resolution, and even though Device Manager shows a '?' for display adapter.
