How to Use Multiple Flash Drives or Cards for a Speed Boost

ReadyBoost is one of the greatest upgrades that they have for Windows Vista. ReadyBoost is a technology that allows you to have additional cache memory for commonly used files and data by using a USB flash drive or memory card. With ReadyBoost, plugging in a USB key or flash card will provide you with options whether you want to use the drive as a storage or as a supplement to increase your system speed.

With the launch of Windows 7, this upgrade was retained by the latest Windows version but they have added support for multiple flash card or USB drives used at a time. When you plug in a key, Windows 7 will ask you if you want to use it to speed up the system or if you want to open it in Windows Explorer.

When you choose it to speed up the system, you will se a screen and then select Use this device then set the memory slider that is seen below to decide on the amount that you want to use for ReadyBoost.

This step will not change the drive’s functionality. To use it as storage, just unplug it and replug it on the port. Also, you may use the unallocated portion of the drive for storage as you use the other part for ReadyBoost.

Note: ReadyBoost will keep you from using more than 4GB of the memory per card, even if you have a 64-bit, Windows 7 operating system.
