Data Loss due to Moving Dynamic Disks between Computers

What is Dynamic Disk?

A dynamic disk is a physical disk that has been initialized for dynamic storage and has several of the features such as support for volume spanning multiple disks, extendibility of the data partitions, ability to create fault tolerant volumes and inclusiveness of a database which keeps track of all the information of all the dynamic volumes and other dynamic disks connected to a computer. These are the advantages which are not supported by the basic disk in Windows. So the use of these disks is one of the common practices followed by the users. There are five types of dynamic disk volumes which are simple, spanned, striped, mirrored and RAID-5.

The Problem

The main problem related to these disks is when we move them between computers, they may get reconfigured. This is the hitch which is related to those dynamic disks with GUID ( Globally Unique Identifier) partition table and also contain volumes that is used by other disks ( either of the five types), then the other disks which do not have this GUID partition table suffer from data loss and it drags a user to a need of data recovery.

The GUID partition table serves the basic layout to the partition table on the physical disk.

Grounds

The logical disk manger, which is responsible for allocating space to all of the storage devices such as hard disk, if supports only one dynamic disk group ID on one computer, then this may result into the above stated problem. Now if the disk is moved to the original computer then there appear two dynamic disks. As GUID is the basic partition table, so this computer matches the disk set ID in the registry only to one of them and not to the other disk whose has been modified by the other computer. This result into data loss and a need of data recovery as the computer sets its properties according to the database stored on it and the trusted GUID partition table.

Way out

According to Microsoft obtaining the latest service pack for Windows 2000 would sort this issue but nothing has been suggested for the data that has already been lost. The way out to recover the lost data is to have a data recovery software which runs on Windows platform. This is termed as Windows data recovery software.

Choosing the best Windows data recovery software is the next issue which is needed to be concerned. The data stored on the dynamic disk may place some mission critical importance to the user, so choosing the best remedy in terms of data recovery software for them is important.

Stellar Phoenix Windows data recovery software has been known for its outstanding performance among the crowd. This data recovery software also works as partition recovery software and can recover data from any of the hard disk. The work out of this data recovery software starts from thoroughly scanning the hard drive and then recovering the data in its original view and content.

This data recovery software finds no problem in recovering data for any of the file version of Windows like Windows 98, 2000, XP, 2003 and Vista. The software comes with a user interface which is quite easy to use and demands no technical aspects to be known to the user. To have a look of its skill, try out its free demo version available on the company’s website.
