Converting FAT Partition to NTFS

In Windows operating system, there is the FAT (File Allocation Table) file system and the NTFS (New Technology File System). The NTFS replaced the earlier FAT file system of Microsoft for improved performance, disk space utilization and reliability.

To convert a FAT partition to NTFS:
(Note: Always keep it in mind to make a full back up of the data on the drive that you wish to convert.)

1. Click Start, click Run, and then type cmd.
2. Type CONVERT [letter of drive]: /FS:NTFS on the command prompt.
3. The FAT partition will then be converted to NTFS by the convert.exe.
