Changing Sytem Bios Parallel Mode to EPP in Windows XP

I have a flatbed scanner that I bought to use with a Windows 98 machine. I hooked the machine up to my XP machine and tried to use the scanner but got a message that I should consult the help section of my operating system to determine how to set the system BIOS from I/O to EPP. My question is, is it worth doing this for a flatbed scanner that I will rarely use, and, if so, how do I go about doing this? Also, will this effect the performance of my computer negatively?

Normal mode was also an option...

Thanks in advance...

Before you even think of modifying settings in the BIOS, have you checked for Win XP drivers for it from the scanner manufacturers website. If there is none listed you will be wasting your time trying to get it working, especially as you state that you will use it rarely...

Looked for a driver which apparently does not exist. I found numerous downloads of the one I have, which works with Windows 98, available around the web, but the manufacturer has not made one for XP. No great loss for me as I did not need the scanner much, and It should be easy enough to find another one. Also, it was a very inexpensive scanner. Thanks for the help...
