bitching Ubuntu - about lags and senseless volume ejects

Hello guys

I 've installed ubuntu 7.04 on my Notebook but it's unusable because of it's bitching around.

Verry often it prefers to lag, or does some wired things:
- The Desktop enviroment dont show any reaction on my mouseclicks.
- The Desktop fully freezes - not even The mousecursor is reacting.
- If i'm typing any text, the System sometimes Freezes ... if the lag stops, He's printing out a long line of letters, as if you're holding the Key pressed down for some seconds.
- sometimes he throw out the DVD Drive for no reason.
- sometimes he displays an errormessage, like "Cannot eject volume hda1" or something.
- sometimes he makes some crazy noises like a really loud (verry horrible) beeping sound. (Speakers)

I don't have fun with ubuntu but i want to give him a try. - Therefore i need your help :)

Any idea?

edit:
My machine (Turion 64X2 & 2 GB of RAM)

preThanks a lot

Regards of the Sponge.
