hi,
when i did the shrink from my vista i jus made sure that it was not part of c drive any more (vista), IE an unpartitioned area on my hard drive along with drive c with vista on it.
then i put my xp home disk in, let my xp disk partition and format the unpartioned space and installed xp on the new formatted space and it went fine from there.
