Sound Card not working

Several weeks ago the hard drive on my PC crashed. I installed a new 100mg
hard drive with Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002 and my other programs that I had on the original hard drive. Now I find that the sound doesn't work on any video or music downloads. Is it possible that Xp Professional doesn't recognize the drivers on the sound card in the motherboard. If so, how do I correct the problem.
