The screen can black out because of driver issues...It may not be the graphics driver that is bad but it would be the most logical to check first.

Before starting though. check that the monitor switchkey on the keyboard is actually pointed to start the laptop display panel and not another monitor.

Use the FN key and then the monitor icon key and see if it then lights up.

If not then run in safemode with networking and go to the manufacturer's website and download the graphics driver for your laptop model and reinstall it .
