Wireless Network speed is way too slow

Hey guys,
Problem is Wireless connects at 11 MBps while aquiring address, once connected it goes down to 1 MBps. I cannot seem to get back up to 56 MBps.
Signal strength is excellent but the speed just wont get there.

Win XP Pro, built in wireless on a Compaq laptop.

Have checked IE and such, HiJack this..etc. Even scanned some DNS issues and found none.

i drive all over the country and connect to multiple locations, I have deleted all of them from the wireless network list in order to make the one the default connection.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

Advertized speed vs real speed...

Hi,

there are so many different things that affect the "payload" speed of any network-connection to say nothing about Wireless ones that I'll send you to a few links:

The 1st one gives very good technical info on why 54 Mbps is not possible:

Wireless Networking Speed: Ideals and Experiences

The otherone is a PcWorld testarticle using the newest technologies: they achieved max apr. 15 Mbps!

Thanks for the links, very informative and i apreciate it.

However, the issue that has arisen is that windows is reporting the connection speed at about 1 MBps. i realize the fators and everything, but the guy that is actually having the issue is telling me that it "never" was like that. best friend and he can be very stubborn at times..

I am wondering if having 802.11a in his laptop and trying to connect to a 802.11b or even g might be giving this result.

sounds like it is a problem with your service provider. Mine does that and gets better after my provider reboots his system.
