Wireless Fault

At home my laptop does not pick up the wireless signal like my other family members, although it says it is on, any ideas? I am running windows vista, the laptop is 3 months old and was working until last week. Thanks. Jeannette

Have you tried reinstalling the wireless adapter drivers? This is probably the best starting point if you have no idea what could have caused the problem.

It's unusual for the device to be present but not functioning correctly so my best guess if it is indeed enabled is that a driver has become corrupted somewhere along the way.

Either remove the device via device manager, reboot and let Windows find and install it again or head to the manufacturers website and download the latest drivers.

What wireless card / wireless access point?

I had a problem with a linksys pcmcia card linking to a linksys WAG54G wireless adsl router. The problem was the router. As i tried several other wireless products.

I also had trouble with the same pcmcia card and a particular D-Link wireless router where I would *sometimes* see the access point but never long enough to get a connection.

I know this post doesn't help, but keep in mind it may be a hardware conflict between wireless card or chipset and the access point.

Hi,

I had a problem just like yours a while ago. Kind of embarrassing actually, the laptop had an on/off -switch for the wireless aerial. Mine was on the left front of the laptop. It even had a nice signallight...

Hello Jeanette, check your drivers and update or roll them back them if you can and try and think about any new hardware/software (including updates) that you have installed just before the problem started.
Try one of your family members' wireless hardware in your PC and see if it's any different.

Regards

Martin
