What type of connection do you have on the mouse and keyboard?

If it is USB > go to device manager and see if the USB controller is installed or if the USB drivers are installed....these drivers can be installed from the motherboard drivers disc that came with the motherboard.

Also enter the BIOS and make sure that USB support is enabled for after boot.
As more and more computers are being built with USB mouse and keyboard connections some motherboards have been incorporating a dual USB support. Usb support for keyboard and mouse is enabled for preinstallation purposes from within the BIOS so that you can interact with your installation of the operating system. Once it is booted then this is switched to the mothernoard USB controller when windows or the operating sytem starts. Both USB supporting options must be enabled.

If it connects as PS2 then the motherboard BIOS options are probably set wrong....as stated above...you can have the options for booting to be:
USP support....enabled or disabled
PS2 support ...enabled or disabled
and then as windows starts then the support changes make sure the proper support option is checked for booting and for operating.
