Windows Ip Configuration

When I go to the command window on my XP PC, and type "ipconfig", it says "Windows IP Configuration" whereas earlier it used to work fine and told me the details of the ip ad, subnet mask, dns, dhcp, mac address etc...

I am using a static IP address in TCP/IP settings of 192.168.1.183, a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 and my DNS settings are 192.168.1.7 which is the IP of the Domain controller.

All this was working fine until recently when it for some reason changed. I can't find the 'Local Area Connection' icon under my network connection. And for obvious no networking.

My other pc is fine and it shows the desired parameters when typed ipconfig.

Could someone please help me with this? What is this "Windows IP configuration" message that I get?

look in the device manager and see if the networking adapter is installed properly or needs to have the drivers re-installed. If that is fine then either the networking adapter is bad and you need to use another one or the cabling has a problem.

You may need to reset your networking configuration again as well.

It's done

I can't tell why happened but it's done. Now i can view the Local Area connection in Netwotk connections and the connection to internet is fine. But the problem of one way ping is still here.It can't be pinged from other computers.

I logged on through another user account in the computer where i found the local area connection in Network connections. I changed the IP address there which was blank at that time. Then i relogged in from my administrator account which had the fault and typed the 'ipconfig' in the cmd window. And it showed the IP address.

Then i looked for the Local Area Connection icon and i got it in the Network connections. And it is done.
