Windows 95/98

Yeah, these are a REALLY, REALLY old systems. Does anyone still have these? I still have a Windows 95, but I don't use it anymore. Wow, that thing was slow, even for it's time. I remember when I had a Windows 95, and there was Windows 98, it just seemed to blow the 95 away. Even today I think the 98 is pretty fast, I remember it being so. Does anyone still use them? By the way, are they worth anything (because they are so old?) Probably not, but I'd regret it if it was and I didn't ask.

If you arent going to be using any new applications, they are fine, but most newer applications require at least 2000. If you have a really old computer, XP would slow it down more because it requires alot of resources.

I have them all. I started with Windows 3.1 and it took about 13 folppy disks. Since then, I have owned every version, except 2000 server. I still have all of the disks.

IMO Windows 98 and Windows XP are both very good versions. 98 was a very stable release, and when they went to Windows ME, they really messed up.

I do not have Windows 95 but I still do use Win 98. I like this OS due to it s compatibility with all the stuffs....Also, this OS is basically used for the testing purpose or QA for the installation/unistallation of new softwares....Can know a lot of specifications while doin some crap work on it

I used to use 98 for my other machine, like the admin says, its better than 2k or xp, only IF the machine is really slow and resources are really low. XP sucks up resources like no other, but i STILL recommend XP since it might be only a bit slower, but it will definitly not have those 'once per week crashes' that 98 experiences.

I have win 95 installed on my other machine. Good for DOS games,
some of those wont run on anything nwer than w98 ;)

I've got an extremely old Mac, a Dell with XP which is an excellent computer, and an old Dell Latitude with 98. I actually really like 98 although its really slow of course, but I like the layout and everything.

btw, I hated ME. :-p

I have both 95 and 98. But i dont use em no more. Too slow and not good graphics.

Missie 02-09-2006 12:21 PM

My brother has both of them. He is kind of a computer freak, and he collects old computer hardware, and parts. But neither one of them are on a comp at this time.

Well yeah, the only reason I use my 98 is on my laptop for basic gaming like Roller Coaster Tycoon. It can't even go online or anything. For my work I use XP.

ChatMod#1 02-18-2006 04:57 AM

I think u can still play games like that on XP or anything newer than 98.

as long as you are not going to use newer application software and games 98 will do , but for the latest one's I feel you need 2000 or XP

extremepixie 04-06-2006 10:38 PM

I have one machine that runs 95 because it is an old system and it is just used by someone for playing solitaire and basic web browsing. Upgrading it would only make it peform worse. I think the computer was a new compaq system in 1997 or 1998.

I also have a laptop with Windows 98 on it. I do have it dual boot with redhat, but as for windows it would not serve me well to put xp on it. With 64 megs of ram and 300mhz cpu, XP would be of no use.

I still find some uses for these old machines, for sure!

Michael311 05-12-2006 01:45 PM

I still use ME.

dartmoor 01-06-2007 02:08 AM

run the old os in fast PC

Install win 95 in a 500 or so mgz pc with 128 mb or more and see if its to slow for you. I use it often! I've got the version that has not intergrated Ie so it is most likely more secure than any Os that uses that infamous browser, be it 98 or xp! There are some people out here working on hyper 95 machines!:icon_twisted:

Fo_ha 01-07-2007 05:47 AM

My brother's pc runs 98 and one of mine does(when it's actually working)
