Will you upgrade to 2Gb of Ram ?

I'm using a lot Premiere video editing program and After Effects for compositing, since i upgraded from 1 to 2 Gb, my system is more stable and faster.
Anyone is upgrading to 2 Gb ?

i;m 512 now although its slow but 2gb is a lttle too much

eShutterBUG 02-10-2006 09:23 PM

I've got 1GB at the moment and I think I'm staying for the time being. It's plenty of speed for the types of things that I do.

There's not much need for 2 gigs imo. Right now I have 1 gig, and its working great.

eShutterBUG 02-12-2006 09:41 PM

Yeah 1GB is definitely fast enough for me. I can even deal with less like on my extremely old mac and my extremely old dell laptop, I can live with them. They've probably got like 64Mb or something.

I'm running with 512mb right now, and it's starting to tick me off. I'm a multi-tasker. I use a lot of programs at the same time and I have my Norton Protection center running at all times... I also play games now and again that use a lot of RAM and I can barely play with only 512mb. I am planning to upgrade to 2GB soon, that is if I don't get a new machine first. 1GB would be better, but I would still use it all up.

I woudn't. I think only servers or people rendering videofiles need that huge amount of RAM.

ChatMod#1 02-22-2006 01:04 AM

I currently have 512MB and it's doing allright, but i would like to have 2 GB. My firend is buying 2GB of RAM as he upgrades his comp on the weekend.

Blashyrkh 02-24-2006 08:12 PM

Good lord, is there any program or game that recommends that much RAM?

Firefox 03-05-2006 07:45 PM

F.E.A.R. recommends at least 1GB of RAM, but you know what games system requirements are like: Add x2 for everything lol

2GB of RAM maybe a little OTT now, but with Windows Vista soon to be released and SLI GFX Cards now the norm, anything less in the near future will be crazy. Soon you'll be talking of 512MB machines like they where the 8MB machines of old.

The machine I am currently building has the capacity for 4GB RAM and I intend to use it to its full capacity as soon as possible. "The more I buy now the less I have to upgrade in the future" is my way of thinking. I rarely just upgrade a machine, I prefer putting up with it until I can build the best machine I can afford.

But then again I am a bit of a techno junky.....:)

I agree. I reckon in the future it will cost heaps more to upgrade or repair that it is now, because of the advances in technology.

chocolatee 04-02-2006 03:26 AM

i don't play games much...so i guess what i have right now is enough...

a_brewsy 04-03-2006 07:52 AM

if i could be bothered to upgrade or even create my own personalised comp then i would fill it as big as is physically possible.
the key IF I COULD BE BOTHERED.

extremepixie 04-06-2006 10:11 PM

I tend to upgrade in big chunks and then overdo it. I went to 1.5 gigs about 2 years ago, and it has served me well in the interim. I will upgrade again in the future, but it will be on a new motherboard/cpu set up. I suspect I will be targetting 4 gigs when I upgrade as well.

Juanzo 04-06-2006 10:16 PM

Is there any particular reason why you'll want that much memory or it's just because? Not sure if with a typical OS you'll notice a better performance.
