Weird Project VHS to CD/DVD

I committed to a project before actually knowing how I could do it. I thought it would be easy for me to just copy VHS recordings to my computer and burn them to CD or DVD. Then when I actually went to look at it, I could not come up with any easy way to do it. I know there are VCR/DVD burner combos, but I am looking at doing this without investing a lot of extra money. What I really need to do is the best advice for getting my VHS tapes on to my computer.

What would be the proper way to feed the video into the PC and is it possible to do it with a regular video card and such or do I need a video capture board?

A TV card with an input will see you right ... and the correct software of course .... something like Adobe Premiere or software with a manual start/stop of input capture.

However a friend with a DVD/VCR combo would be faster and a lot easier

Thanks for the tip. I agree. I will have to see if I can track down someone with a dual recorder. Although I have been wanting to buy a capture card for another project for a while, so maybe the tv tuner is the route I will go. I will just wait for a deal too good to pass up. Will one of the USB tuners work in a pinch you think?

I need to take some screenshots off tv anyways, so I guess I will just go in this direction. Again thanks for the suggestions. :)

Maybe I will wait for a rebate deal that gives me something for $0.00. That is how I got my router, although it took me 11 months to get my rebate back from netgear.

good call Firefox, i have used this method a few times, most tuner cards come with a standard recording in mpeg as well which is perfect for dvd playback
