I want to run Windows XP on old pc??????????
 

where do i start....
I have a pc which has windows XP home edition on.
I have been given an OLD pc from a friend and even thou im not a pc xpert my idea was to boot the xp cd n hey presto....................
........WRONG!!!
AMI BIOS Version A05, when i go into SETUP i do not have the option of bootin from CD, only harddrive & diskette only.

when i turn pc on it detects keyboard,floopy A:installed and ATAPI CD-RW 40/12/48X.
(how come it reconizes CD-RW but i dont get the option in SETUP?)

so i downloaded XP boot disk onto floopy (X5)

when asked to insert bootable media into drive, put #1 floppy into drive A:

tells me windows NT has found only 511K of low memory.512K of low memory is needed to run windows

what size of harddrive is in the old computer.? You need atleast a 3gig drive to install windows on. and with all the updates and fixes you will not have any room there for any programs.
