VB100 malware test update
 

The newest and most updated VB100 malware test propels good news to the public.

According to the Virus Bulletin, the newest VB100 malware test has presented and proved to be a good news for security application vendors, two of which exceeds the most recent edition or version of the celebrated antivirus test.

The test that was performed in early December last year for applications used for 64-bit version of Windows Vista. The manufacturers executed the 100 samples of malware collected from the internet. In order to pass the test, the security manufacturers are supposed to accurately detect and identify every sample executed exhibiting a false positive result.

Virus Bulletin tested applications created by vendors such as McAfee and Symantec, including F-Secure, CA, Sophos and AVG. The proprietary application of Microsoft, OneCare and Forefront, also passed the test.

There are two security applications to fail the Virus Bulletin test, the Norman Virus Control and Alwil Avast, where the two exhibited a false positive result. This might compromise the systems processes and can cause data loss for users and servers as well. None of the other 22 vendors’ brand that was sampled presented a false positive result or missed any of the test broadcasted 100 malicious samples.
