Unwanted Toolbars and Settings Changes

Delete Unwanted Toolbars

The Internet Explorer web browser in Windows Vista has many lines of defense to keep unsolicited software from changing Internet Explorer’s configurations. A user can activate the Add-on Manager program to disable unwanted toolbars. This option does not resolve all related problems, however.

There are other solutions to persistent toolbar issues. A user can activate the ‘No Add-on’ mode in Internet Explorer, and then utilize Add-on Manager to halt the appearance of any unintentionally installed toolbars. The ‘No Add-on’ mode permits the aforementioned browser to operate without ActiveX controls, additional toolbars, or any add-ons for the meantime. This allows the user to troubleshoot any add-on related concerns.

Activate ‘Add-ons Disabled’ with the following steps:
1. Click on the Start menu button and access ‘All Programs’
2. Go to ‘Accessories.’ Click on ‘System Tools’ and Internet Explorer (without Add-ons).
3. The display’s Information bar will show that add-ons are deactivated.

Restore functions to the previous state by accessing Internet Explorer through the usual shortcut in the standard Start menu.

Repair Unwanted Settings Changes
Reset all settings (not including Internet Connection Settings, Content Advisor Settings, Group Policy Settings, Favorites, and Feed) if the home page or any other settings have been unintentionally modified.

Reset browser settings with these steps:
1. If many Internet Explorer windows are open, close all except for one window.
2. Go to ‘Tools’ and activate ‘Internet Options.’
3. Go to the dialog box in Internet Options. Click on ‘Advanced.’
4. Click on ‘Reset’ in the warning window.
5. Click on ‘Close.’ Click on ‘Ok’ in the pop-up windows and restart the browser.

Installing all Microsoft Security Updates, using anti-virus, anti-malware, and anti-spyware programs will guard against unwanted changes in your system.
