system32 file hal.dll is missing

I hope this is the right place to post this..

So hi there, I started up my pc, but get the message that it can't start up because the system32 file hal.dll is missing, been like this for a few days.
I don't have a reinstallation disk, because I don't think I got one with it.. and windows won't boot up.
Is there any way I could fix this problem without the disk? Also, I have little money to buy one.
I'd appreciate any help you could give, i'm not good with computers at all.

Missing Hal.dll

Hello, unfortunately you are going to need access to the installation CD or the 6 floppy start up disks ( Download details: Windows XP Home Edition Utility: Setup Disks for Floppy Boot Install ) then you should be able to access the recovery console.

When it goes to the recovery console you may need to type in your password.

Once you have accessed the recovery console type bootcfg /rebuild and press enter.

When asked to add the installation to the boot list, press Y.
The load identifier will be the name of your operating system e.g. 'Windows XP Professional'.

Then you will be asked to enter the OS load options, leave this blank and press enter.

Restart your computer and select the first entry, you should be able to start windows normally.

If all goes well, and after you have started windows, go to Start>Run> and type msconfig and press enter. Click on the boot.ini tab and delete the old entry.

Apply any changes if necessary and close down 'msconfig'.

Let me know how you get on.

Regards

Martin
