PFN_LIST_CORRUPT Error Message at Windows Startup

In Windows operating system, a table called Page Frame Database (PFD) keeps track of all the physical pages of memory. This PFD is a large one-dimensional array that is indexed by Physical Frame Number list or PFN. Corruption in PFN mainly occurs due to buggy driver, corrupted or damaged RAM, virus hit and more. Once the PFN gets corrupted, the computer stops booting and you receive error message. In such situations, the data stored in the hard disk becomes inaccessible. In case an updated backup is not available, you need to use advanced Data Recovery Software to access the data saved in the hard drive.
*
You receive below error message when you attempt to start Windows 2000 based computer:
*
“STOP: 0x0000004E PFN_LIST_CORRUPT (Parameter1, Parameter2, Parameter3, Parameter4)”
*
The above STOP error message halts the Windows booting process and thus makes the data stored in the hard drive inaccessible.
*
Cause:
*
The above error mainly occurs due to corruption in one or more PFN list or entries. Corruption in PFN entries can occur for one of two reasons, the first reason being incorrect MDL handling. MDLs are programming APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) for programs to lock certain memory areas so another program cannot use it. The second reason for the PFN corruption is memory corruption. If a system contains a buggy driver that is writing on the memory, which it does not own, then it could corrupt the PFN entries.
**
Resolution:
*
To resolve the above problem and access the data, you need to follow these steps:
*
You need to run hardware diagnostic applications, which are generally provided by your computer manufacturer.
You need to disable all file system filter drivers, such as backup utilities, virus scanners, or firewall software from your system.
Remove extra Random Access Memory (RAM) from your system.
Verify that the hardware and the drivers are compatible with Windows 2000 operating system. If they are incompatible, then you need to install the compatible drivers.
*
If you encounter the same error message even after following the above steps, you need to perform Data Recovery to extract your inaccessible files. To recover all your data files, you need to use efficient and powerful File Recovery application. These applications are specifically designed utilities for easy recovery and restoration. They serve as user-friendly utilities due to their simple graphical interface and largely automated operation. These applications incorporate high-end scanning algorithms to recover and restore the inaccessible data from hard disks and flash based media.
