noisy computer and lost search assistant
 

I have a few questions, I hope you can help.
My computer have been noisy, I am not sure where the noise originates from, it is not from the fan it may be the drive I have have 3 hard drives on my computer, how do I pinpoint the problem?
Also, my SynVol32.exe keeps disappearing I have to run setup from my windows xp cd. This also is occuring with search indexing files. I am also missing the windows managment files on my daughters computer witch also has xp on it I have tried to run setup with for that too but it doesnt seem to work. ????

your problem is of course the hard drive... and needs to be checked in the bios. and dont recommend you going into the bios and messing around with it unless you know what your doing. one mess up and you can trash the computer!!

as far as noise, if you are comfortable, start the computer with the side panel off and try to determine the location of the noise. It can be as simple as a loose screw or struggling fan which needs to be replaced.
(it cannot be assumed by any means that it is the hard drive, they often make more noise as they get older, but it is a recognizable spinning sound, and cannot be fixed through bios, so disregard that suggestion, there are many monitoring tools available to check the speed of drives, etc from within windows itself)

what do you mean synvol32 keeps disappearing? from your computer, from the system tray? or maybe it just isn't being loaded on startup?

XP has 2 versions: home and professional, if the other computer has a different version you cannot install additional components off the other install cd.

no, im saying the hdd can be checked in the bios.... not fixed..

it would depend on the bios maker, most good companies do allow for checking of speed, etc in bios, but still not recommended. I would still recommend a windows app which can compare values with standards and determine if your drive is potentially going to fail, or working with normal levels.
