No Audio Device

I have no sound on any program. In Device manager: Legacy Audio Drivers-OK:Audio Codex-OK Under other devices: Multi-media audio controller- not installed code 28. In Sounds and Audio Devices: no audio devices, all options grayed out. All tabs in Sounds and audio devises are grayed out. This started when I installed a new win 2k os. I since formatted the HD with Active KillDisk then installed a new XP Pro sp2. Still no sound. Help and ideas gratefully accepted. At this point voodoo spell, magic incantations, suicide potions considered!!!

Have you installed the drivers for your Audio device from the disk that came with your mobo or the audio card?

If so you will need to get updated drivers for the manufactures website.

no audio device

If mobo is mother board I have no disk for it . Came with the computer The audio card is the one that came with the computer and has not been messed with for 3 yrs. anyway I have no disk for the audio card. I did not change or install anything having to do with audio. all I installed was XP. I don't understand what you are saying. Other than changing to xp this computer has no add on devices except my HP all in one printer. Other wise it is a very plain generic no frills computer. The only discs I have are xp ,hp, quest dsl, I don't have games or other stuff added. Just what came with xp. Please enlighten me:confused:

Sound Card

Hello, your sound card still needs a driver to work. Try the sound card makers' website and download the appropriate driver.

Shouldn't AIDA32 list the sound card? If it does I don't see it. If I have to look on it for a manufacture how do I get to it?

Hello, to see if you can get sound while you try and resolve the issue with your card, reboot and go into your bios ( press escape or F2 during boot time ) and see if you can enable any onboard sound if your board supports it. It sounds a bit awkward but if you don't see the manufacturers name on the sound card, another way of finding out is to look for the FCC ID on the card. Try this site: OET --- Equipment Authorization.
