Moving XP Pro Hardrive into different computer

Hi, I want to move my current & registered, XP Pro SP2 OS hard drive, (plus all my other programs, settings & email data), physically into another computer box. The new box has a faster processor & is therefore alot quicker as well. I have attempted a test 'connection' & when I boot, all it does is continually re-boot after only getting so far in the process. It doesn't even get as far as the log in splash screen yet... just bios stuff. I just want to avoid having to spend untold hours doing a fresh install. Then there's the issue of re-registering my product code...will it or will it not work....? And how; step by step please, if it is not too arduous a request...:icon_wink:

It is a complicated task as the windows installer sets itself up for your specific hardware. You would be best to re-install to have the software work properly, as the only viable half way attempt would be to unregister and remove all drivers in hopes that the new computer would load it, allowing you to install the drivers again.. which basically defeats the purpose.

I would recommend for the future creating a partition on the drive and installing your software to the partition away from windows, then you could save the registry keys prior to a format, and restore them without having to re-install your software.
