mouse problems

i dont know if this would come under softwear or hardwear problems but im gona mention it anyway. basically my mouse keeps crashing when using computer, mainly whilst gaming. when it crashes the cursor will stay where it was last, but i can still click on icons and other stuff on screen. so basically i can still select things but cant see what im clicking on as cursor is stuck in middle of screen. iv tried avg anti-virus and anti-spyware scans and got rid of evrything wrong there and iv also bought a new mouse as i was told that it was possibly the mouse at fault but the problem still persists. i tried a disk cleanup earlier so i dont know if that will sort the problem but i thought i would post this anyway.
any ideas of how the problem came about and how to fix it would be appreciated.
thx

Try updating your video card drivers. Let us know if that fixes it.

From Windows navigate to the Device Manager, click display adapters, note what brand and model(e.g. Nvidia 8800, ATI 9200). Then go to the manufactures website and get the latest drivers.

im downloading it now but if problem still persists any ideas of what should be done?

If that doesn't work i would make sure your DirectX drivers are up to date.
Remove and re-install the game. Look at the games website to see if it needs any patches.

its not to do with the games it does it outside of the games as well. the problem started about 2 months or so and i only got game around a month ago and as for patches there arent any yet brand new game and also my direct x is up to date....

Try uninstalling the mouse from the device manager.
Also if you installed any mouse software, to program a special button on the mouse etc., uninstall that also.
Then reboot.
