Laptop Keyboard not Recognized during XP Install

Hello All;

Brief Stats;
Tosihiba Portege 3500 Tablet -30GB -1.1GHz
DOS 7.10 Installed on FAT32
i386 folder copied to root (C:)
smartdrv copied to root (C:)

What happens;

I can load DOS 7.1 perfectly fine; keyboard on laptop works perfect.

After typing smartdrv, I type winnit.

As soon as Windows installer loads and asks to, select path where windows files are or press Enter.

From this point on I cannot do anything to progress further. :(

However, if I press the FN key, it lights up! But the keys do not work :(

INCENTIVE: If someone can find a solution I will pay $25 via PayPal or Moneybookers!
:)

Have u tried doing a full clean format using the Xp disc and then tried installing Xp ?

The laptop I have, Toshiba Portege 3500, does not have a CD ROM drive nor a floppy drive.

Thus the reason in copying i386 files to notebook hard drive.

So no, I did not and could not use the XP CD to format/ re-install

Thanks for your reply! :)

Usb ports ? U could copy Xp to a usb and set the bios to boot from removable drive first.

Wombat:

Winnit was a typo, obviously since I stated later in that same post that I am stuck at the Windows XP installation screen.

Also, there is no PS2 slot for this laptop.

Zorba: Unfortunately boot from USB is not supported with this laptop BIOS

Thank you for all your ideas!

With this information then your laptop must have USB supported keyboard option from within the BIOS...get an adater for the PS2 keyboard to use USB and use it to install the program.
