JavaScript and Macromedia Flash Player Problems

To Whom It May Concern:

How do I enable JavaScript? I keep receiving an error message that I need to update to the latest version of Macromedia Flash Player or enable JavaScript. I downloaded the latest version of Macromedia Flash Player, version 9; however, the youtube and playhousedisney websites will not accept the change or allow my family to play games or view videos. I would appreciate any help that you can provide me.

Thank you.

Enable javascript in Internet Explorer

To enable javascript in IE 6 or IE 7

In Internet Explorer goto -> Tools menu
Select -> Internet Options -> Click Security tab.
Click -> Custom level... button at bottom.
The Security settings dialog box will open.
Under Scripting category enable -> Active Scripting and Scripting of Java applets
Click OK

Sami,

My IE security settings where already defaulted to enable active scripting and scripting of java applets. I appreciate your assistance regarding this problem.

Take care,
Robeth

Same problem

I have had the same problem for some time now, and have not been able to figure out what is wrong. I have downloaded the flash player several times and checked the IE settings and I still can't view alot of things. Does anyone know how to fix this problem.

Sami 04-11-2007 04:28 PM

1. Try alternate browsers like Firefox to make sure Flash is working fine.

2. Check your firewall settings

3. Some aniti-spyware's block flash, check settings there too.

Thank you for responding.....I downloaded the Firefox and went to playhousedisney.com and was not able to view it. It said i needed to update my flash player and again I downloaded it, and still nothing. I checked the other things you mentioned which did not help. In all the research I have done to try and figure out why I am getting this problem, I think it has to do with IE and Adobe flash's new security updates, but when reading into it, I am not understanding all the computer lingo. I can't beleive that there aren't more people with this problem.

Same problem

I am having the exact same problem! I have downloaded Flash 9 a zillion times, and nothing. I have checked my active controls, reloaded, deleted old Flash, downloaded IE7, and ALL the other suggestion from Adobe, and NOTHING! This is rediculous. No Disney, no You Tube, no Flash media! Help!

Can you give us more details about your PC,

Like
1. Operating System
2. Service Pack
3. Firewall
4. Antivirus and Antipsyware
5. When the problem started (after installing any software etc..)

AprilB 04-16-2007 11:59 PM

Windows XP Home edition service pack 2
IE7
Defender Pro Anti-Virus
Cox.net firewall security
I believe the problem started after an automatic update in IE. The look of internet explorer changed, and I think that is when the problems started happening. Everytime I open a page that has the need for flash player I get the dialogue box asking if I want to download the macromedia flashplayer, you say install and it will then allow that certain banner or whatever it might be to run. But for some reason I can't even get into playhousedisney.com, it says to update the flash player, and after you do, it still says the same thing.

Please try these fixes from adobe

1. Adobe - TechNote : Flash movies do not appear after installing the Flash Player

2. Some Internet utilities, such as Norton Internet Utilities, perform functions similar to a firewall and may restrict viewing of ActiveX controls. You need to ensure that your firewall or utility settings are set to allow ActiveX controls or you can't view Flash movies in Internet Explorer.

3. The most common cause of Flash movies failing to display is the presence of pop-up/ad blocker software that specifically targets Flash content. To find out more about this issue, see Flash movies do not appear after installing the Flash Player
(In IE7 make sure popup blocker is disabled)

Firefox 04-18-2007 02:43 PM

What setting are enabled in Firefox? Goto Tools>Options and click the content tab. Both Javascript and Java should be ticked. Also did you download the Flash player through Firefox when it prompted you? Sometimes this dosent work correctly and you should go to the Adobe website and download the one for Firefox and install. I have visited both websites with my Firefox browser with no problems.

Any help I can provide just ask.

system

I have Windows XP home edition
Sony Viao pc with Celeron processor
Service pack 2
McAfee protection/antivirus
Problem just started. I was previously able to veiw You Tube videos. My wife and kids want to go to Disney.com, but that site and now others say we either have JavaScript turned off or need updated Flash player. When we try to download Flash Player 9, it seems to load, and shows up on our programs, but will never play, and the same site say we still need it.

Firefox 04-18-2007 03:59 PM

What browser you using? See the Firefox post above

I was using IE 6, but I kept reading to upgrade to the new IE 7. It loaded all fine. I still tried to download Flash player 9, and performed all the suggested checks and fixes, and still it wont run Flash, and all websites say I need to upgrade to FP 9. But I did...

My problem is that I can download the Flash player on my desktop...and everything works fine. If I switch to another desktop (both of which have admin privileges), then I get the same error mentioned in the above posts regarding the need to download the Flash player. If I remove the Flash player and try to re-install it from another desktop, it doesn't install. Using IE7.

Every time I visited certain sites it would say i didnt have the latest version of flash player or javascript was disabled...my computer said differently... we couldnt play games or veiw youtube or even read my emails... 2 weeks later and after trying EVERYTHING advised, I unistalled my "security" thingy (mine was MACAFEE) and everything is back to normal! Its worth a try , it worked for me!!!!!! GOOD LUCK! I KNOW HOW U FEEL!

Same Issue with javascript, except I have a mac

hey. i made the mistake of trying to download flashplayer onto my imac running OS X. now i have tried to uninstall flashplayer, supposedly that worked, but now whenever i go to certain sites, i cant use them, like youtube, msn games etc. what am i missing? it usually reads i need to enable javascript (which as far as i can tell is already enabled) or download flashplayer (which i no longer want to do). help

You need to download the proper flash program for the Mac system. you need to make sure that you have the proper Java for Mac installed and enabled....(check your browser settings as there may be a scripting security issue!)

There is two different things....
1)macromedia flash which is what you need installed to view in your browser and media player
2)flash player is a program that will replace your existing media player

is there any way i can just get things back to how they were before without downloading anything new? i dont really want anything microsoft related on here. here is what it keeps telling me now:

The page “JavaScript and Macromedia Flash Player Problems - SysChat” has content of MIME type “application/x-shockwave-flash”. Because you don’t have a plug-in installed for this MIME type, this content can’t be displayed.

i would prefer to have my computer just as it was right before i made the mistake of messing with flashplayer. thanks

Sorry, I don't do MAC! Try a Mac site to solve your answers. I am not being or trying to be rude...just Mac has their own rules that they abide by and I have enough troubles trying to catch up with all the new ones with windows!

If you want to view sites like Youtube you Must install the flash player. Also It's NOT a Microstoft product, it's originally from Macromedia now owned by Adobe.

Many sites use Java to detect and redirect or give a message if the flash player is not found on your system.

What broswer are you using, they support Firefox, Safari and Opera for Mac?
Adobe - Web Players

Go there re-install from one of the supported browsers. IF you still have an issue check your security settings in the browser.

FYI
98.6% of computers have flash player 7 or above installed.
