I'm confused...

Hi,
I was hoping that someone out there could help me. I have a hp ze4400 laptop computer that came with an hp-all in one printer. I have used the printer successfully many times, but it just so happened that I loaned out my driver to someone that can not find it now - and of course... now the computer "can not communicate with the printer". I need to use it desperately, is there anything I can do to make it work again? I have tried everything I know...
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me... :icon_redface:

Whats the model number of the printer?

You must have gotten some kind of bundle. And when you say you loaned the driver, I gather you meant you loaned the CD that the printer driver came on.

Regardless, can you let us know what the model number of the printer is?

Have you tried the HP Support site?

Try to get to the downloads section for your printer. http://search.hp.com/query.html?char...4400&oc=429228 is a good starting point. Just plug-in the model number of your printer.

Hope this helps,
JV

HP has a wonderful selection of drivers online, i have used there site many times... who wants to keep all those printer, scanner, driver cds laying around, lol...
just type in type and model number as the examples show and you should be on your way.

I'm Confused...

Thanks for your responses, I was beginning to think that my printer was gone for good..:icon_wink: What I have is a "hppsc 1210v all-in-one printer, scanner, copier". I have used it many times, like I mentioned before - I just don't understand why now all of a sudden it does not work?
Thanks so much for any help you can give...

Computers are not a perfect science, they have failures, mistakes, etc. Mostly software issues and confilcts. If you installed a new program with similar registry keys or it tries to 'share' the driver with another utility, this conflict can cause software and hardware not to function properly.
By installing the drivers last, it usually corrects these issues :)

Perhaps you accidentally didn't plug in the cables or something properly? I've heard of cases like this happening where the cable wasn't pushed in properly and the printer is not recognised. And make sure you have the latest drivers and so on for you printer... sometimes that could also be a problem.

You can also try to view if Windows detects your printer by going to Start > Control Panel > Printers and Other Hardware >View installed Printers and Faxes and try and see if you can see if your printer is installed correctly. If not you can also try the Add Printer Wizard (Start > Control Panel > Printers and Other Hardware > Add a Printer). Hopefully you can make use your printer after this. You can also try System Restore (All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore) and try to see if your printer works with a configuration that you had before, but I don't recommend this because this could cause other problems.

I'm Confused...

I would like to thank all of you for your help and quick replies. I think that this is such an excellent site - I am so glad you are here. All of you have been so kind and understanding, and no one made me feel stupid for the question I asked. I really appreciate that more than you know! I went to the printer site that you suggested, and at the moment everything looks as though it is going to work fine. It analyzed my computer - found out that I was missing an active x control and apparently had the wrong software installed... although I don't understand that one - as it was the software that came with the printer... and I'm in the process of downloading new software to run it. It is just taking an extra long time as I live in the country now - and one of the pitfalls of that, is "dial-up" Internet :darn:. So needless to say it is taking me "800" minutes to download the software! This is the first time in forever that I have had to have dial-up, and I checked into satellite Internet and it is $600 down and $99 a month!!:sconfused: Sooo, looks like I'll just be working at at the "lightning" speed of 31k for awhile!!
Thanks again guys for being there!
Vickie
