How would I know if an anti-spyware program is legitimate?

There are a number of ways for a user to identify the difference between rogue applications and legitimate anti-spyware programs. Check out the list below:

Legitimate anti-spyware applications never advertise using pop-up advertisements. Additionally, they do not post advertisements on the darker neighborhood websites such as ****ographic or online gambling sites.

A security application that mysteriously appears on your system and you are certain that you haven’t installed it is most probably an illegitimate program.

The results of the scan should forewarn you. Illegitimate anti-spyware programs will report files and processes that are legitimate, as they want to frighten you into concluding that there are a number of spies on your system.

Research about the product name on Google. If results like “Remove product name” appears on any of the results, it may be a sign of a rogue application
