How to Create Custom Keyboard Shortcuts in Word

Are you a keyboard ninja? If yes, then you would probably love to use your own keyboard shortcuts.
However, you might find it a bit difficult to create your own keyboard shortcuts if you have shifted to Windows 2007. So, if you wish to create and use your own keyboard shortcuts in MS Word 2007, you are reading the right post.

Keyboard shortcuts are among the most desired features when it comes to work with MS Word.

Without them, I don’t think anybody can ever achieve the goal of increased productivity while at office or at home. There already exist a myriad of commands for MS Word 2007 has already assigned the keyboard shortcuts. However, at the same time, there are many commands and dialog boxes for
which there are no shortcuts.
For example, for the Insert Chart dialog box, there is no preset keyboard
shortcut in MS Word 2007. Now, if you are a frequent user of this dialog box, you would definitely want to have a keyboard shortcut for it. This is because to access this dialog box, you normally have to select
the Insert tab on the ribbon and click Chart under the Illustrations group. Now, it’s really a wise though to reduce this two-step activity into a one-step task.

Nevertheless, creating custom keyboard shortcuts is only restricted to specifying a new hotkey for the commands for whom there is no shortcut. In fact, you can even add your own keyboard shortcut for those commands that already have one. For example, you can add Alt + B for the bold command as well.

However, you might only do so in case you do not prefer using the pre-assigned keyboard shortcuts or want to give the existing one to some other command. Anyways, let’s now see how to assign a keyboard
shortcut to the Chart command so that you can easily access it in just one step.

To do so, select MS Office Word Options for opening the Word Options dialog box. Now, select Customize from the left panel and click the Customize button to open the Customize Keyboard dialog
box. Now, select the Insert Tab category and Insert Chart command. Now, in the Press New Shortcut Key text box, just press the new hotkey, for example, Alt + C. Finally, click the Assign button and you will
see that the hotkey appears in the Current keys text box. That’s it! Close all the dialog boxes and press the shortcut to access the Insert Chart dialog box.
