HDD found in BIOS but not in Disk Management

Hi all,

I,ve got a Dell d400 laptop at hoem taht needs xp back on it, now i know that i need to put the laptop hdd in my desktop with the converetr and format to fat 32 and install dos and so on ............. But the proble is when i put this hdd in my desktop it is found in bios, but when i start windows XP SP2 it is not found in my computer, Now i've had this problem before and know to go in disk management, but when i got there the laptop hdd is not displayed!

Any ideas, thought or previouse experience with this problem would be greatly appreciated!

Check your jumper settings. Depending what other drives you have on the same cable set the jumper accordingly. Set it to master, or if another device is on the same cable set one to master the other to slave. If it's on cable select try changing it.

Addition

I forgot to mention in my earlier post my primary hdd in the desktop is a SATA hdd. Dont know if this would make any difference, as i used to have an addition hdd in thsi computer, until i put ti in a server.

Thanks again Fazzy

Why would you want to do this?

What is wrong with using the Dells recovery partition to put the default factory fresh install of XP back on the computer?

There is no need to put DOS on a computer to install XP either.

NTFS is better on a computer than Fat 32 because of the ability to utilize files over 4 gigs in size as well...

It sounds like he doesn't have a disc drive and is following this tutorial.
http://www.syschat.com/install-windo...py-cd-463.html

Just reading between the lines. (assuming, even though I should know better)
