Easy upgrade to Vista

When Microsoft launched last January 2007 its new operating system, the Microsoft Windows Vista, it was thought that to upgrade from a Windows XP was very easy to do. In fact, many people thought that all you needed to upgrade was an Upgrade disc which you may insert in your DVD drive. And that this disc will just install over your present Windows XP and not validate its previous product key.

Unfortunately, it is easier said than done. However, there is a workaround for it that requires just a few clicks of the mouse when installing with the disc.

The whole process is really very simple, except that you have to be installing Windows Vista two times. Many have already tested this process and have gotten successful results.
  1. First start your computer using the Windows Vista Upgrade DVD.
  2. When you start up your computer, make sure that your Windows Vista DVD is in your DVD drive before the computer moves on to the second screen while booting up. Make sure that you your DVD is recognized as a boot device. This is done by configuring your BIOS.
  3. Install as you normally would but do not enter in the product key.
  4. This is a vital step to follow. When you do not enter your product key when prompted to do so, you will be allowed to install Windows Vista but only to use within thirty days wherein when that time comes, you will prompted to enter it again.
  5. Select the version of Windows Vista that you would like to use.
  6. Highlight which edition of Windows Vista you are going to use. There are five Vista Editions to choose from
  7. Install Vista again after installing Vista. When you are finished installing Windows Vista on your computer, you have to install it again. First click on the My Computer icon, and then go to the Control Panel, and then Programs, and then click on Windows Vista to install it.
  8. Install and type in your Product Key: This time, when you are prompted to enter your Product key, you may do so.
  9. Perform a Custom (advanced) Install:You will come to a point where you have to choose between an Upgrade and Custom Install. Make sure to choose Custom. Windows should now perform a clean install of Vista on your PC. Don’t forget to restart.
  10. This may be a cheaper although a bit harder way of upgrading to Windows Vista. If you have money to burn, it is still recommended to get the OEM’s since you can be sure of smooth sailing in your Vista experience.
