XP won't run after 1st reboot
 

WRT to my first post above: Got the XP setup to complete, and the computer rebooted to run Windows XP and complete the setup (BTW, this is an XP Pro, SP2 CD). But all I get is a black screen with a blinkin underscore cursor in the upper left corner a couple of "lines" down.

How would you go about with the dual boot Vista/xp installation when you get the message that disk is not recognized at xp install time and the BIOS does not have an option for you to deactivate native SATA? This is on an HP Pavilion dv9580ez.

Mine didn't say that explicitly. I made two changes:

- Set "SATA1 Controller Mode" to "IDE" (it had been "RAID" which I don't understand, there's only one drive in this thing...)

-Set "ATA Emulation" to "Combined Mode" (was "Enhanced").

It's a Phoenix BIOS, this is an HP machine also, so I hope you have the same options. Perhaps someone smarter'n'me can comment on the signifigcance of thsoe two settings, but the help seemed to indicate that the settings were more fitting to the hardware at XP's original time frame.

Also, after making these cahnges to the BIOS, I had to go back into Vista and reboot a couple of times (juest for good measure). Vista installed drivers for the "dumbed down" SATA drive, and when I went back to XP it ran. I'm loading drivers and software on the machine this AM.

Problem with installing XP onto Vista
 

Hello there, I recently brought a new PC, with Vista pre-installed, and as I were unable to run certain programs on Vista which I had been able to run on XP, I decided that I would attempt a dual boot.
I read this article and got to stage 2..where I hit a problem :confused:


With the XP (professional) disk inserted into the drive, I start up my PC, and tell it i want to boot from disk.

It starts the XP setup, and states that 'Setup is loading files'. It gets as far as 'SCSI Port Driver' and then comes up with the following error message...

''File cpqarray.sys caused an unexpected error [32768] at line 3514 in d:\xpclient\base\boot\setup.c.''

''Press any key to continue...setup failed...reboot...''

I've attempted this several times- and still no more progress.
It shouldn't be anything wrong with the disk because It has been used in the past with success.

I'd be grateful if anyone could please help me as I've ran out of ideas :icon_question:

Thank you for your reply. I am late in answering you because it's only today that I got a notification message from the Syschat server. The BIOS is very stingy on parameters. I finally got around this problem by storing the Disk Controller driver on a diskette and providing it through the F6 procedure at XP installation time with a USB diskette reader.

I'll just start off with saying that I am a noob when it comes to computers, I only know enough to get me around, but I recently bought a Asus laptop with Vista pre-installed and once I realized that some programs wouldn't work with Vista I decided I wanted to try and dual boot with XP but I only have the recovery disk and am wondering if I can get around needing the Install disk. I noticed a few people had/have the same problem but I didn't see and responses or solutions given.. I have two drives ( C: & D: ) Vista being on the C: drive. Thanks in advance

Problems Pc will not come back to Vista
 

Some time ago I made dual boot to my Dell XPS M1210 with Vista Premium installed. Everything went straight on.
Today I tried to do the same to my doughters pc, acer Asoire 5610Z, with Vista Basic.

It had D partition, so I just started to install XP Professional to D. Everything went ok, but when I should do step 3, I missed and hit the Startup Repair button. After that I have not managed to get the pc back to Vista. I have tried to continue with the commands in "Command prompt". When I type the Bootrec.exe/fixMBR , the answer is "Operation suceeded" (translated from Norwegian OS). When I type the command

X:\Sources)Bootrec.exe/fixBoot

I get answer:
"Volumet inneholder ikke et kjent filsystem.
Kontroller at alle de nødvendige filsystemdriverne er lastet inn, og at volumet ikke er skadet."
Translated to english is something like:
"The volum do not have any known file system. Control that all necessary filsystemdrivers are loaded, and that the volum is not corrupt."

Can anyone help?

I am having problems with step four of the dual boot process. it is not working for me. i even copied and pasted but still no luck. any suggestions?
