Dual boot problem............again!!

Hi guys.........new to the site but guessing this is probably an age old problem. It just seems that I have fallen into a trap I can't get out of and I was hoping somebody may be able to bail me out.......puuuuuurlease:confused:

The history:

I recently formatted my 'puter using the Vista recovery program that is partitioned off the hard drive by the suppliers.

Unfortunately some of my equipment drivers do not have an upgrade for Vista, so in my wisdom I partitioned 20Gb within Windows, put in my XP disc (not a strictly legitimate copy!), then restarted the computer. I then proceeded to load XP on the newly formed D:/ drive.

Only trouble is, the computer only runs XP now...aaargh! XP, quite rightly, won't let me format D:/ drive to get rid of it. I tried to go into 'diskpart' but it only seems to recognise the hard drive in its entirety (no partitions) and I think that includes the Vista recovery section. Within the Disk Management, XP has labelled D:/ drive as the boot drive, C:/ drive as the system drive and the recovery program as an unknown, but healthy, partition.

Is there any way of getting into Vista or getting rid of XP?

Out of interest, I was subsequently given this link from this site by another forum. Looking at the first page, I can't really see any difference in the procedure I undertook. But hen again I am a 'puter duffer!!

Here's hoping you may be able to help

Many thanks and best regards,

Bernie

We do not support the use of installing illegal copies of an operating system on this website.

No sure I understand the problem
If you reformat the entire hard drive you only have one partition so xp cannot
delete itself from windows
If you have dual boot you can delete the second installation from the first one
Sounds to me like you don't have a menu to select vista or xp
