CRT and LCD monitors?

I'm using CRT monitor right now but what's the difference between CRT and LCD? If in technology, of course it's LCD but if in price, it's CRT. But how about the radiation? Which one is higher?

It all depends on what you are using the monitor for...

LCD (liquid crystal display) monitors are good for saving space on your desk and ok for running programs like Office and older games as the response time (normally Milliseconds on an LCD) is not as fast as a CRT monitor(with its reponse time measured in nanoseconds), however they tend to suffer from image burn slightly less than a CRT monitor. LCD monitors also use less power than a CRT eqivilent

CRT (cathode-ray tube) monitors are the best to use for graphic design software as they are the only monitors which display pure black, they are also better for fast paced games or applications which use a high refresh rate 95Hz +. CRT monitors suffer from image burn slightly worse than an LCD monitor in that the image has to be still for less time to create image burn than an LCD monitor. Radiation will be more form this monitor. But not so much you will be glowing green in a week. There's alot more radiation in your mobile phone / microwave etc than will ever come out of a monitor :D :D :D :D :D

Unless you are a serious gamer on the edge of technology or a serious graphic designer/artist, you wont really notice much difference. An LCD display will be brighter than a CRT but the picture may be a bit laggy under some conditions because of the way the picture is displayed, also the max resolution will be lower with a lower refresh rate. CRT's are cheaper with better display charactistics, but use more power, room and are heavy, but will have a higher resoultion and refresh rate.

Oh and the technology used in LCD's is getting better all the time so in the near future LCD may be the ONLY way to go .... I personally however would stick with my CRT anyday..

Hmm.. from your research, that means CRT is better for me! Faster refresh rate, gaming function, pure black display, and higher resolution. I don't really mind if CRT used up more space or is heavier... but too bad CRT uses more power. But how about radiation? Which one of the two is better? CRT or LCD?

Nevertheless, I will still stick to my CRT too! XP

I love my LCD, alot thinner and sleeker looking. Also, my old CRT hurt my eyes sooner than this LCD im using.

Maybe it's a bit small, but you can easily see the difference between those flat LCD monitors.

Btw, can anyone confirm that LCD monitor do not harm your eyes as CRT do?

I heard exactly the same thing, but I don't know the technical explanation (if any).

The reason CRT make your eyes ache faster is the fact that the screen is brighter!

Buy a big CRT and a wireless keyboard and mouse and sit further away...lol

But the smallest CRT you can get i think is like 15 inches, and the big ones are like 19inches. So i dont think you can work properly if u sit farther from the monitor.

Monitor: 19" SyncMaster 930B - Samsung
->new version of my monitor http://samsung.com/Products/Monitor/...9BIDKBVXAA.asp

1) doesn't hurt your eyes, at least not my eyes, i programmed an assignment for over 18hrs the other day and didn't ever have a headache or blurred vision
2) check the specs of this LCD monitor, 4ms responce, 1280x1024 resolution and magicBright II, it is easy on the eyes, takes almost no space on my desk and is plenty bright enough for the darkest of games, unlike all the monitors they try to pass off at comp stores with the ATI or simlar prog running, the 930 matches them without maxing out the contrast OR brightness, and at <6lbs anyone could carry this thing home. :D

well...i'm stuck with crt too...it's because it's cheaper...maybe i'll get lcd in the future, now that i learned crt uses more power than lcd...
