can anyone tell me if there are different ways or tricks of telling if a person has a bad cpu??

There are couple of utilities like Motherboard Monitor to sense temps from CPU and also check Fan speeds.

And also Depending on the type of the BIOS you have your bios beeps no.of times if your CPU is really bad. Here is list for the most common BIOS beep codes.
