comp not loading after powered on

 I am so frustrated with comp of hubby. Yesterday we had no problems at all. Tonite we go to get on and it will power on but not boot. then after about 3 or 4 tries we finally get it to boot up just to have it shut down once the desktop loaded. We have checked all the wires and cables, checked out with a different hard drive--still same condition. We have tried changing jumpers and settings, with no luck of change we put settings back to original. The only thing recent that has been done, was about a month ago we put a new cpu fan on. But this is first prob we have had. Does anyone have a clue as to what could be problem or what we should check next. i hope it isnt the processor or mb:angry:     any help would be greatly appreciated the fan light is also on solid, bios light is on solid on my card tester. do not hear any beeps when powering on. also hear a chirping noise when move one cable---not sure where it goes

dont know about the chirping noice, but sounds to me the reason its not booting up is that.... u either put the wrong size fan on the heatsink or didnt put it on right.. and u will continue having this prob. till its fixed the right way.. its a saftey issue from u not to fry the cpu... the chirping noice might be a bad hdd trying to go out...and thats a good guess...

G'day guy's,native could be right, did you put thermal compound on the new heatsink and cleaned the old stuff off the cpu? if not it might have overheated, try pulling your fan and cpu, clean them and make sure the cpu is seated properly before locking down, this fixed much the same problem I had once,I'd tried everythig else and thia was a last resort but it worked,as for the chirping a lot of HDD,s will make noises just like that so I think native has had a good guess

done that

we took fan off and cleaned up reapplied the heatsink lube stuff, put fan back on and reinstalled now we get nothing. it powers on but cd drive lights dont do anything i think the cpu has went bad, we tried a different hard drive that we know works and had same issues. we just dont have another cpu that we could try that is compatible with our mother board.

pull out the cpu and reinstall making sure it's seated properly also check that ram is seated properly, remove it and reinstall.
