Chinese Laptop in the UK

Will a laptop bought in China work in the UK? I mean charging etc.
My dads gone to China for 4 days and is buying me and my mum a laptop.

The UK power supply is 240V for those who don't know

Yes it should work, all you need is power adaptor/converter plugs which are available at many travel & luggage stores.

It should not matter, the converter should take care of any over voltage issues, and your laptop has an internal power supply to run it, it simply uses the power to recharge itself when plugged in. The output of a standard laptop or desktop inside is different than the power supplied to it. It's a little complicated, but it's the amps that matter most, and voltage can be changed to almost any amperage (within limitations of physics) I don't wish to teach an electricity physics course with this message so just trust me :)
