boot problem I have a corrupt copy of win xp pro on my computer. I have tried to format harddrive to reinstall new. When I go to bootup from my cd, the computer locks up and does notning. I have checked my boot sequence on the bios, it is set to boot up second after floppydisk. I have tried reinstalling the bios that came with the motherboard. I have tried to format drive from going to c-promt, what do you think could me the problem. I have limited knowledge, but have build six or seven computers. not good at troubleshooting yet. |
Your problem is that it is Windows... LoL J/K!!! I don't know the answer but I am sure someone will be along to tell you all about it. I wanted to welcome you to the boards... We are glad to have you! |
Hello and welcome to Syschat What is the brand and model number of the CD ROM drive? You could try booting from an XP Boot Disk floppy and select the one that says "Start with CD ROM support" and then insert the disk and type in the drive letter and then setup ie D:\setup It may just be that ur CD ROM isnt working in DOS mode correctly, but the XP Boot Disk has a generic CD ROM driver. Good luck and let us know how you get on! |
Why not set the cd-rom as the first boot drive. Sometimes it helped. |
When the computer boots go to the command prompt c:> and type in CHKDSK C:/F /R THIS IS XP'S SCANDISK AND THIS WILL /F FIX ANY ERRORS FOUND AND THE /R OPTION TELLS IT TO CHECK SCAN FOR BAD SECTORS AND RECOVER ANY READABLE INFORMATION THERE!! |
a good answer, but please do not use all capitals, there is no need. |
Scandisk freeze My Computer has been freezing and when windows asks to run scandisk it begins and freezes in stage 5 of 6. What can I do? |
