Bios password reset for r50 and r40 IBM Laptops

Hi,
I have 1 R50 and 1 R40 IBM laptops which the Bios passwords have lost. I understand there are 2 recognised way out there, by software and by hardware. Can someone show me where to obtain the software and the procedure in sesetting BIOS pwd using hardware method.
