ATI Vs NVidia Cards

Just curious what you people think it a better card. I am looking at getting a new video card and I have a GF2MX400 64mb card and a GTS card also. I am not looking to buy the lastest and greatest but something decent. The Ati 8500 seem ok for the price but haven't looked much. Looking for Pros and Cons to both.:

Anyway, the real answer is always "depends".

There is always a best choice, but never a best choice for everyone/everything.

Brand loyalty when it comes to GPU makers is totaly pointless. These companies exist to make money and all of them will lie to you to do it. All of them screw up sooner or later, so sticking with any specific company regardless of the competition will get you burned.

You have to look at their current batch and judge from there.

agreed but at the momnet ATi is ahead soon as the 512mb 7800gtx is at mass production, Nv is gonna rock but i hate the 1000 series and the 7 serious they oly offer slightly better prtformance then the pervious gen

Hmm... I'm not really sure about that, but since Nvidia beats ATI in all Doom III performance test, I've decided to buy a GeForce FX in the end of the year. And this is what I get, GeForce FX5500. But that's a few years back, for now I'm still unsure which one is leading.

mmm it depends on which games u are going to play, but i would go with nvidia

I prefer NVIDIA, because it is more well known and it is way better than ATI.

After HORRIBLE experiences with my fx5600 and their drivers, I've been using ATI and I'm more than happy.

Nvidia never let me down.
Im using it for decades now.And i dont have problems with them.
Unlike the first AGP i've bought when I was 10.It only lasted 2 months before it was burned out.

I didn't know that NVIDIA was that old. Anyways graphics cards(old ones) weren't made of good quality and standards as it is now, so it is normal i suppose.

I must admit that a few years ago, when nVidia made the move to nVidia2 and had there inexpensive line of 32mb cards as well as mass producing 64mb and starting 128mb cards, they were the ones to beat, but with the advancements there have been in video cards and all other types of memory, it does seem they are beginning to fall behind.
*unless they are keeping there upcoming details hidden, i would say Ati is the better company right now.

Well, I seem to prefer ATI more than Nvidia, mainly because ATI cards (and drivers for that matter) don't seem to have problems. I've heard about a lot of problems where the driver for Geforce cards caused problems, and had to be replaced and so on and so all the people with ATI seem to be happy.

It all depends on the experiences of the user basically, and I guess the choice for the graphics card will be different for each and every one.

Yes, i prefer NVIDIA and have never experienced any problems at all. Some people buy NVIDIA or ATI because of wat they have heard from others or which is more popular and not mainly on how good each of the products are. I think that they should look at it's specs and compare it with other products and then get a good eal for which it is worth their money.:)

I prefer ATI because it isn't a sell out. Nvidia is like microsoft, if they can sweep a few things under the rug and make a profit (Such as having a horrible product), they will do it. Rather then doing what is good for the consumers. ATI > Nvidia.
