Error locating xp key.txt

I'm trying to help a friend who crashed their computer get the product key using jelly bean. when they run it the jelly bean box comes up and in the box or line where the key is supposed to be it says: Error locating xp key.txt. What can she do to get the key retrieved so she can reinstall or run repair using a xp install disk I loaned her as she bought the computer with xp pro on it but no disk. Help> I exhausted my little knowledge by giving her my jelly bean floppy. Help please!!
