Best midrange desktop manufacturer?

Hey everyone,
Im looking to get a desktop for one of my friends, and I was wondering, what is the best place/company to get a midrange desktop? I think all he is going to be doing with it is internet/word/light gaming. Ive heard good things about Dell, but want a second opinion.
