Default Need help with win 2000

I bought a rebuilt Dell Laptop with Windows 2000 professional on it. Didn't get the disc though. (should have but didn't pay the extra money for it). It was working great until grandson was on the thing over Christmas. Now when I try to boot I get the following message:

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\WINNT\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

Anyway I can get this back without the windows 2000 setup disc?
