It is possible that it is not the actual cd you are running out of space on, but rather ther hard disc (or virtual RAM) which is created there. Check the settings of the burning program and make sure that you uncheck anything that says "copy to harddrive first" also you may want to lower the size of the buffer. These may cause the burn to take a little longer, but they should work.
Check to see how much free space you have on your hdd, also how much RAM is the laptop running?
