You must have gotten some kind of bundle. And when you say you loaned the driver, I gather you meant you loaned the CD that the printer driver came on.
Regardless, can you let us know what the model number of the printer is?
Have you tried the HP Support site?
Try to get to the downloads section for your printer.
http://search.hp.com/query.html?char...4400&oc=429228 is a good starting point. Just plug-in the model number of your printer.
