Default compaq laptop wont connect to local wifi area

I am very ignorant of computers. so please be gentle on me. i tried to connect to local area network. and it says it has good strength and i am connected. but when i go to internet the bottom says the page was loaded "done" but the screen is blank. no matter what website i go to it says it is there but screen is blank. what is going on?
