trouble Very old problem fond some old solutions here>> Boot Hard disk under win- 98/Xp

Hi there,

Please help me out. I have a HP -CQ- Laptop which has faulty CD Rom ( it does not work). It has no OS now as I had formatted and repartitioned the HDD. I can boot it Via USB drive and I can run W-98. I tried to install windows XP pro SP -2. everything went well but at the end of setup I am getting mesage technical Error Stop 00-000000071 ,

My question is>>

1. how to boot a Hard Disk on its own? ( now it requires my USB drive ). when I try to boot it on its own it says "File allocation table not supported." whereas the drives are formatted under FAT 32 system. Xp setup does not list the HDD partitions under recovery console.

Please help me out.
